It is pretty wild to think that less than a year ago I was preparing for a 70.3 and the very thought of the distance was daunting. Fast forward 10 months and I am completing the same distance as a tune up? Looking at this weeks training, there is not much different than prior race tapers. My routine has worked till this point and the addition of some longer runs in the past few weeks I feel I am very capable of a PR. My fitness is there, I have no doubt I am capable and completing each leg of the race. Where my focus will remain is in two aspects, nutrition and pacing. As the distance of the event becomes longer the attention to detail in these areas will be the difference between a PR and DNF.
This week’s preparation will not be unique to prior race tapers, the biggest change to my schedule will be the replacement of a weekend endurance ride for a swim/bike taper. Just the way the 70.3 fell on the calendar it came the same week as a swim test, a vital component of the training and cannot be postponed.
Monday- Day Off
Tuesday- Swim Test 50/400
Wednesday- 60 min Endurance run @5:25/ KM
Thursday- 90 min Bike Tempo
Friday- Swim Endurance
Saturday- Swim/Bike Taper
Sunday- Race
