It has been said that if you take on a new activity consistently for four weeks, it becomes a habit.

What would you like to change that may increase the chance of achieving a goal? Big or small, it is about repeating the same act over and over until it is second nature.

Soon this will become habitual and you will notice and dread the days that you do not perform as expected.

Stick with your goals and find minor changes to make, this may be difficult but I assure you it is worth it.

Damnit! I know, I was the guy who was a proclaimed self trained athlete, but that is flipping difficult. The planning isn’t terrible, but it is very easy to lose structure and start, “wingin it”. Something I saw myself starting to do and slowly the volume slipped.

Ironman is 4 months away and I am starting to feel the pressure. This is a huge distance and walking away august 30th with a DNF is not OK with me. Life happened and it has been difficult to plan weeks and follow up to record performance. Two factors that must be evident to perform at the ironman level.

I am not really sure how long I have been at it, training that is. I officially began December 1st, however, my training plan started January 1st. So that first month was training for training? I am so confused, but all good and training is going well. Each session I feel stronger and I notice I am able to keep my form for longer durations. Especially in the swim, my form has gotten so much more efficient and I am able to maintain a faster pace.

 Goals, goals, goals, goals… Talkin bout GOOAAAAALS… Always a fan favorite, plus it’s New Year’s Resolution time, right?  But let’s try doing something different this year. Take a moment to look into the future, break out the magic eight ball, the tarot cards, whatever. Let’s look five years from now. Can you clearly see your life? Good! It is amazing when you really stop and think about it, how effective the little things are. How a brief conversation, could spark a thought in our head and lead to some killer ideas. New ideas normally lead to momentary motivation.  It does not necessarily have to be a new concept, but a new found motivation to complete a previously establish goal. continue reading…

So it has been a few weeks, I know. Life happens, deal with it. But the main thing is I am jumped back on the horse and was able to get organized again. I am not sure what it is, but after a few off days of training/blogging it really feels like a daunting task to just sit down and get after it. Caught a bit of a stag in training this past few weeks. Due to some traveling for work, it made it very difficult to complete prescribed work outs. But I have been able to make due, utilizing hotel training facilities and 15 foot pools. Another aspect I noticed is how easily I slip back into old training habits, it really takes a lot of dedication to break old boundaries. continue reading…
