In order to complete our goals we must create incentives, a reward for staying on track. Unfortunately human nature does not allow us to continue to sacrifice day in and day out without seeing the light. The idea behind this exercise is to reward myself for staying on track. However, my interests go beyond Triathlon and so do my goals. I will also be reaching for success in other areas of my life including: career, wealth creation and personal finance. If I can remain constant in achieving my goals, I am able to reward myself with something I actually want and deserve.

Ever make a bad decision and regret it later? I may be the only person this had happened to, but sometimes I make a bad purchase and it is usually an impulse. Thinking back, I was able to clearly justify why I need this new toy and at the time it really seemed like a great idea. Unfortunately, a week later the initial excitement wears off and turns out I was wrong. Regretful purchases are one of the worst feelings ever; this method will hopefully prevent those feelings of “I can’t believe I just wasted my money on a set of knifes”.

The other benefit I will receive from this program comes in the moments prior to the purchase phase. Specifically, the week long obsessions that sometimes influence me to complete an impulse buy. Now I can let time decide if this is something I really want or just this week’s “Big Idea”. If a month passes and I am still down, lets party.

Each month I will reward myself with a new purchase, pending I meet my goals. I will be required to:

1) Set Weekly Tasks
2) Complete Tasks
3) Set Aside $$$ for Purchase

I will outline each week my exact tasks and have some fun with it as well. It can be anything from interviews, to saving money or to driving traffic to my website. The idea is to be creative, and find new ways to achieve our ultimate goal. If we do this, we can avoid burnout/boredom.

My next goal is to race next season in the CRCA and for that I would like a Trek Madone:
