Nutrition, what gives us the energy to sustain high efforts during training. The X factor that will provide athletes that extra burst during the final interval set. Proper nutrition can prevent injury, avoid sickness and increase the probability of a strong performance race day.

Without getting into too much detail, mainly due to the fact I am mid research and do not have much to convey. My goals with nutrition are to provide my body enough fuel to sustain efforts during training, while creating enough of a deficit to decrease body weight. Obviously the importance is to fuel appropriately and ensure health, too few calories per day and I could be in trouble real quick.

So with my mission statement realized, I must utilize the most nutrient dense foods while minimizing empty calories. A lot of fruits and vegetables will be incorporated into my diet as well as proteins and carbohydrates.

In order to maximize my bodies efficiency to burn fat as opposed to any other nutrient, I will also work healthy fats into my diet including; almonds, peanut butter, flax, avocado and oils. By increasing fat intake and limiting starchy carbs to immediately after work outs, I will be able to better train the body to utilize fat stores as energy.

This is a bit new to me so if I am a little unorganized I apologize, it seems a little backwards to me as well. But my goals are clear; I need to lose body fat while maintaining enough calories to sustain workouts. I will continue to update you on the progress and any changes I make to diet.

I will also be checking out the Paleo diet, so if any of you out there have comments please feel free.
