Damnit! I know, I was the guy who was a proclaimed self trained athlete, but that is flipping difficult. The planning isn’t terrible, but it is very easy to lose structure and start, “wingin it”. Something I saw myself starting to do and slowly the volume slipped.
Ironman is 4 months away and I am starting to feel the pressure. This is a huge distance and walking away august 30th with a DNF is not OK with me. Life happened and it has been difficult to plan weeks and follow up to record performance. Two factors that must be evident to perform at the ironman level.
The logic at this point is, I have made a substantial commitment to IM this year, which includes hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars. There is no way that a un-developed/structured training program will help me reach my goals. A coach will provide a detailed road map for helping achieve my goals and give me a solid kick in the arse when needed.
I have made a decision to work with a coach. A coach must be knowledgeable, experienced, enthusiastic, and persistent. I need to learn from the experience of others, both the successes and failures. In return I will agree to be coach-able and promptly provide feedback which will help grow as an athlete.
Start with the end in mind… Kona 2012, see you at the energy lab Lance.
